Robert's
impressionistic watercolour landscapes seek to capture the essence of a place. A
passion for the translucent but unpredictable effects of watercolour, which
makes each painting an exciting experiment, are evident in these pictures.
Robert feels that his best watercolours are created quickly to capture the
ephemeral effects of light and atmosphere, although the detailed townscapes call
for a more considered approach. Transparent watercolour washes are applied over
a light pencil drawing to build up a painting using tone and colour to create
dramatic effects.
Two
examples of looser and tighter paintings are shown here.

Loose - Venice Silhouette

Loose - Yardley Hastings
